Nomination Process
Application/nominations must be submitted electronically. Please click here for details on electronic submission requirements.

Deadline
Application/nomination packages must be received by the Entomological Foundation Headquarters by July 1.

Notification
The Entomological Foundation Headquarters will notify all candidates and their nominators, where applicable, with the results of their application.

Renomination
Any candidate nominated, but not selected, may be renominated no more than two times within the two-year period after his/her initial submission. Application/nomination packages will be retained for two years by the Entomological Foundation Headquarters. Nominators must send a letter of renomination to melodie@entfdn.org by the award deadline above. Previously submitted documentation will be used for the evaluation process unless the nominator submits new or updated documents. The renomination e-mail must contain this additional documentation. New or updated documents must follow the electronic submission requirements.

Jeffery P. LaFage Graduate Student Research Award

  The Graduate Student Research Grant was established by an endowment from donations by Rousell Bio, Dow AgroSciences, FMC, and from additional donors. The grant is awarded to a graduate student who proposes innovative research, which advances or contributes significantly to the knowledge of the biology or control of pests in the urban environment, especially termites or other wood-destroying organisms. This grant may be used for salaries, equipment, supplies, or travel to initiate, accelerate, augment, or expand a research project.

Eligibility

The grant may be renewed. The applicant must be a candidate for a master's or doctoral degree at an accredited university. The grant is open to students throughout the world. Priority will be given to proposals demonstrating a creative and realistic approach to the fields of interest. The recipient is encouraged to present the research results at an Entomological Society of America (ESA) meeting and is required to acknowledge the grant award in any publications resulting from these funds. The amount of this research award is based on the amount of earnings from the investment and presented at the Entomological Society of America's annual meeting.

Each application must include the following information:

1) Title, duration, and background information concerning the
    significance of the proposed research to the field (one-page limit).
2) Materials and budget (one-page limit).
3) Maximum of three letters of recommendation.
4) Letter of nomination.

Kenneth and Barbara Starks Plant Resistance to Insects Graduate Student Research Award

  The Plant Resistance to Insects Graduate Student Research Award was established by an endowment from donations by Kenneth J. and Barbara Starks and additional donors. The grant, made annually, consists of a plaque and a research grant. The amount of the grant is based on the earnings from the investment.  

Eligibility

The grant is awarded to a graduate student in entomology or plant breeding/genetics for innovative research that contributes significantly to our knowledge of plant resistance to insects. This grant may be used for salaries, equipment, supplies, or travel to initiate, accelerate, augment, or expand a research project. The grant may be renewed. The applicant must be a citizen of the United States and a candidate for a master's or doctoral degree at an accredited university. The recipient is encouraged to present the research results at an ESA meeting and is required to acknowledge the grant in publications resulting from these funds.

Henry and Sylvia Richardson Research Grant

Eligibility

Each candidate must be an Entomological Society of America (ESA) member and a postdoctoral student, working in insect control by attractants, repellents, biological controls, thermo controls, or chemical controls. Second priority will be given to those students working in insect control of medical or veterinary importance. If there is no suitable candidate in these categories, candidates working in physiology or toxicology may be considered. A grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. This award amount is based on the earnings from the investment.

Award Procedures

Applications/nominations must be accompanied by supporting data, arranged in the following format:

1) Letter of nomination
2) A letter of application describing eligibility.
3) Two typewritten pages describing research in one of the areas defined above.
4) Graduate-level and postgraduate transcripts.
5) Two letters of recommendation, one from a major professor and one from a previous instructor.
