Joseph H. Camin Fellowship

The award will be presented at the Acarology Annual Meeting and will be acknowledged at the ESA Annual Meeting by the Entomological Foundation President during the Entomological Foundation award presentations.

Nomination Process

Applications shall be submitted as paper or electronic documents, to ASA Selection Committee: Dr. Hans Klompen, Ohio State University, Museum of Biological Diversity, 1315 Kinnear Road, Columbus, OH 43212-1192. To send electronically, send application to: Klompen.1@osu.edu. Nomination packets assembled will include the information stated under Award Procedures. Questions regarding the guidelines for the award should be directed to the Entomological Foundation, 301-459-9082.

Award Procedures

An application must contain the following information:

1) Applicant's name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.
2) Description of applicant’s academic studiesincluding academic plans for the coming school year.
3) Current official transcript of college grades (may be sent separately).
4) Brief statement of the applicant’s research interests and goals in acarology.
5) A letter of recommendation from applicant’s academic advisor, which should be sent separately.

Deadline

Application/nomination packages must be received by September 1.

Stan Beck Fellowship

This award assists needy students at the graduate or undergraduate level of their education in entomology and related disciplines at a college or university in the United States, Mexico, or Canada. The need is based on physical limitations or economic, minority, or environmental conditions. The award amount is based on the earnings from the investment. The award will be presented at the Entomological Society of America's annual meeting.

Award Procedures

An application must contain the following information:

1) Letter of nomination.
2) Description of applicant’s academic studies including academic plans for the coming school year.
3) Current official transcript of college grades (may be sent separately).
4) Brief statement (not to exceed 2 pages) of applicant’s need or challenge.
5) A letter of recommendation from applicant’s academic advisor.
6) Two letters of support demonstrating applicant's need.

Deadline

Nomination packages must be received by the Entomological Foundation office at 9332 Annapolis Rd. #210 Lanham, MD 20706 (for transcripts), electronic submissions are to be e-mailed to: melodie@entfdn.org by July 1.

Renomination

Previous fellowship winners are encouraged to apply as each individual  may win the award up to three times. Any candidate nominated, but not selected, may be renominated no more than two times within the two-year period after his/her initial submission. Application/nomination packages will be retained for two years by the Entomological Foundation office. Nominators must send a letter of renomination to melodie@entfdn.org by the award deadline above. Previously submitted documentation will be used for the evaluation process unless the nominator submits new or updated documents. The renomination e-mail must contain this additional documentation. New or updated documents must follow the electronic submission requirements.

Notification

The Entomological Foundation Headquarters will notify all candidates and their nominators, where applicable, with the results of their application.

The Pioneer Hi-Bred International Graduate Student Fellowship




Sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, a DuPont Company

This fellowship recognizes and encourages innovative research and graduate education in the area of entomology with a focus on key insects or complexes of insects that effect corn, soybeans, canola, alfalfa, or other significant commodity crops. The areas of research and study may include one or more of these crops.    

The amount of the fellowship (stipend) will be $12,500 per year until completion of the graduate degree up to a limit of four years. The fellowship winner will be presented with the first installment of the stipend at the Entomological Foundation’s awards ceremony held in conjunction with the Entomological Society of America’s (ESA) annual meeting in 2005. 

Eligibility

Each nominee must be either a graduate student at the time the Fellowship is awarded or should be accepted into an accredited graduate program at the time the award is made. He/She must attend a college/university in the United States and must have demonstrated excellence in the study of entomology or a related discipline. The proposed research program must address a key insect or complex of insects that affects corn, soybean, canola or other significant commodity crop. An individual may receive this award only once.

Award Procedures

Each application package must contain the following: (Maximum 20 pages):

1) Application Form (click here to download application in MS Word format).
2) Letter of nomination.
3) Transcript (GPA 3.5 or higher).
4) Three letters of recommendation. Each recommendation letter should address the student’s competence in a science discipline and associated occupational skills including creative thinking, decision-making, problem- solving, communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
5) Description of the student’s completed and proposed program of academic studies including a brief statement of the goals, rationale and justification for the proposed research project. A description of research methodology is not necessary.
6) Short essay on why the student is interested in the study of insects impacting crops including corn, soybeans, canola, other significant commodity crops.
7) Statement of long-range career goals and a description of how the graduate program will help the student to attain those goals.
8) Vitae, which includes educational background, relevant employment, memberships and affiliations, awards and honors, and community service. Click here for guidelines for developing the award CV. Complete sections 1 & 5 only.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Each year BioQuip Products, a major supplier of entomology equipment, sponsors a $2,000 undergraduate scholarship to assist students in achieving their goal of obtaining a degree in entomology or pursuing a career as an entomologist.

Eligibility for the BioQuip sponsored scholarship

Applicants must have been enrolled in the previous Fall as an undergraduate student in entomology at a college or university in the United  States, Mexico or Canada; or if the college or university the student is attending does not offer a degree in entomology, the student, through his/her studies, must be preparing for a career as an entomologist. The student must also have accumulated a minimum of 90 college credit hours at the time the award is presented in September and either completed two junior-level entomology courses or have a research project in entomology. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.

Eligibility for the Entomological Foundation sponsored scholarship

Applicants must have been enrolled in the previous Fall as an undergraduate student in entomology, zoology, biology, or a related science at a college or university in the United States, Mexico or Canada and must have accumulated a minimum of 30 college credit hours at the time the award is presented in August. Students must have completed at least one course in Entomology or a project in Entomology. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.

The completed application must contain the following:

1) Letter of nomination (student can write letter of nomination to request consideration).
2) Statement from the student concerning interest in entomology, career goals, financial need, and other pertinent factors which illustrate qualifications for the scholarship (limited to two typewritten pages).
3) Three typewritten statements from school officials or other knowledgeable individuals attesting to entomological interests, character, aptitude, and financial need.
4) Current official transcript of college grades (may be sent separately).
5) Application, attach to assembled packet. Application is required and can be downloaded as an MS Word document. Please download, fill-out, save to the hard drive, and attach application to the packet.
