Officers

President | Sharron Quisenberry, Term 2011-2013

Sharron Quisenberry is the Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Iowa State University of Science and Technology. She served five and a half years as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, four years as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of the Montana Experiment Station at Montana State University, and eight years in department-level administration prior to coming to Iowa State University. She is nationally and internationally recognized for her expertise in plant/insect interactions and plant resistance to insects. Dr. Quisenberry has served on the National Academy of Sciences' Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources and on the Board for International Food and Agriculture Development. She received a Ph.D. and MS degrees, both in entomology from the University of Missouri-Columbia; a MS in Environmental Biology from Hood College, and a BS Ed in Biology from Truman State University. Vice President| Thomas Green, Term 2009-2011

Thomas Green is President of the IPM Institute of North America, Inc., a non-profit organization he co-founded in 1998. The Institute’s mission is to leverage marketplace power to improve health, environment and economics in agriculture and communities through IPM. The Institute operates the IPM STAR program, evaluating and certifying schools nationwide for their pest management practices and impacting more than 2 million children since its inception in 2003. Clients and funders have included US Army, US EPA, USDA, SYSCO Corporation, Whole Foods Market, General Mills and the Universities of Wisconsin, Florida, Cornell and Rutgers. Dr. Green has been an apple grower, and founder and owner of an IPM supply business that is now part of GEMPLER’S. He is a Certified Crop Advisor and holds a Ph.D. in entomology from the University of Massachusetts. IPM Institute of North America

Treasurer | Bruce Monke, Term 2011-2013


Bruce Monke is currently Manager of Field Development and Technical Services for Bayer Environmental Science. He has more than 20 years experience in managing personnel as well as projects in diverse agricultural and urban pest management markets. Monke is an entomologist by training with master's and Ph.D. degrees in entomology from the University of Nebraska. Bayer CropScience

Past President | S. Bradleigh Vinson , Term 2011-2013

Since 1975, Brad Vinson has been a professor of Entomology at Texas A&M University. His laboratories are involved in the isolation and identification of genes that allow the parasite to evade the host's immune response and that regulate the host growth and development. His labs are also involved in developing new approaches to management of the imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta. His research involves physiology, behavior, genetics, and ecology, as well as developing and evaluating new products. Previously, he was an Associate Professor in Entomology at Texas A&M University and Mississippi State University. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Entomology from Mississippi State University and his B.S. degree from Ohio State University. Discover Entomology at Texas A&M University

April Gower, Ex-Officio

. April Gower serves as Executive Vice President of the Entomological Foundation. Serving 25 years in the nonprofit sector, her experience in management and administration includes program development and implementation in science and environmental education, marketing, and fundraising. Prior to joining the Foundation, she served as Education Initiatives Specialist, Development Manager, and Program Director for National 4-H Council; Marketing and Public Affairs Manager for the Entomological Society of America; and Program Coordinator for the Triangle Coalition. As Program Director for National 4-H Council, she provided leadership to the its Environmental Stewardship Program, a community-based youth education program designed to form partnerships among national youth education groups and improve their access to educational resources. Gower holds a B.S.from the University of Maryland and Masters in Business Administration/Marketing from the University of Maryland/University College.


Kenneth Helt, Term 2012-2014

Kenneth Helt, CPA, is an audit manager with McGladrey & Pullen, LLP. Throughout his career at McGladrey he has focused on non-profit clients, including educational institutions, foundations, associations, research organizations, and healthcare entities. Prior to working at McGladrey, Mr. Helt worked as an accountant for 5 years with a nonprofit organization in Baltimore, Maryland, and was responsible for account reconciliations, preparation of financial statements, financial analysis, and oversight of the payroll department. Donna Lucas Graham, Term 2012-2014

Donna Lucas Graham is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education at the University of Arkansas.  She currently serves as undergraduate and graduate advisor, the graduate coordinator, and teaches in departmental and Honors College courses.  She also serves as Secretary for the Academic Committee on Policy, in the Academic Program Section of the Board of Agriculture Assembly for the American Public and Land Grant Universities. Dr.Graham was elected Fellow of the American Association for Agricultural Education in 2010 and was the AAEE Distinguished Lecturer in 2006. She is a co-author of the textbook, “Education through Cooperative Extension,” and previously served as a County and Area Extension Agent, and State Extension Specialist, in Arkansas.  She received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, and a M.S. in Adult Education and B.S. in Home Economics, both from the University of Arkansas. Dr. Graham been recognized with numerous teaching awards from the University of Arkansas as well as by the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA). University of Arkansas 

Kevin Pass, Term 2012-2014

Kevin Pass is a graduate entomologist from the University of Kentucky.  He founded Action Pest Control in 1981.  Since its incorporation, Action has grown to five branches: Evansville, Washington, Indianapolis, Jasper, IN, and Owensboro, KY.  Action employs over 100 people and has been named in the top 100 pest control firms nationwide for the last five years.  Kevin is the current Treasurer of the National Pest Management Association, Vice President of the Kentucky Pest Management Association and actively involved with the Entomological Society of America, Indiana Pest Management Association, and Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana. Andrine Shufran, Term 2011-2014

Andrine Shufran is the Coordinator for the Insect Adventure entomology outreach program at Oklahoma State University (OSU).  She has served eight years in this capacity where she provides educational presentations for groups and events of all ages and sizes, supervises undergraduate students in insect husbandry, and raises funds to support, improve, and expand the program. Dr. Shufran teaches a class at OSU entitled Entomology for Educators and provides support to many other courses within the Entomology department at OSU via invited talks and live insects for use as teaching models and tools. Dr. Shufran holds degrees in Entomology from Texas A&M, New Mexico State University, and Oklahoma State University.  Insect Adventure

Nan-Yao Su, Term 2011-2013

Nan-Yao Su is a professor of Entomology with the Department of Entomology and Nematology, University of Florida, Ft. Lauderdale Research and Education Center. One of his early interests was to understand how subterranean termites search and locate food sources in soil. This led to the development of the first commercial termite bait products in the US. Application of the monitoring-baiting technology in a subterranean termite IPM program has been the applied aspect of my program. On the basic side of the program, his research team continues to study the tunneling behaviors of subterranean termites so as to understand termite foraging strategy. Ft.
