The Entomological Foundation's 2004 Awards:

Lillian and Alex Feir Graduate Student Travel Award

This award of $900 encourages graduate students working with insects or other arthropods in the broad areas of physiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology to affiliate with ESA’s Section B and to attend the ESA Annual Meeting or an International Congress of Entomology. Dorothy Feir established the award as a tribute to her parents who, at considerable self-sacrifice, encouraged education and travel experiences for their daughters.

Jinfang Li is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Entomology at The Pennsylvania State University. Her research focuses on the malarial parasites (Plasmodium falciparum) using molecular techniques to knock out a gene (PfPuf2) responsible for the sexual stage development of the parasite with the hopes of leading to a potential malaria vaccine candidate to block the transmission from mosquito to human. She has three refereed publications to her name.
